Mixed-use development adds to the livability of communities and helps create sustainable environments. But it also adds complexity for commercial real estate professionals evaluating Apartment/Retail development projects. The Apartment/Retail Mixed-Use Development Case Study course immerses you in the development of an urban apartment building with ground-floor retail during two 90-minute online sessions.
Using a case study, you will explore apartment/retail building development from the Request for Qualification through the completed project and financials. The case study is structured on the Real Estate Development Matrix developed by Daniel Kohlhepp, Ph.D., of the world-renowned Johns Hopkins Carey Business School.
You will also learn to utilize the CCIM Development Specialty Track's Direct Cap & Spread Analysis process, as well as the Maximum Building Size Estimator, Land Residual Analysis, and the Multifamily Proforma. All spreadsheets will be available for you to use in your own work after the course. The case demonstrates the iterative nature of the development process as well as the need to stress critical variables in a sensitivity analysis.
While the course is designed as an elective within the CCIM Development Specialty Track, there are no restrictions on who can attend. Students need only the desire to further their knowledge and practice of real estate development.
